More Fun

Well here we go again, Olly had another infiltration of her iv. So she got a new iv this afternoon. This one is in her right hand, for those keeping track that makes right hand, left foot and left hand hand.

Olly has also been in a fair amount of pain this afternoon and evening. So we have begun the process of once again ruling out the big one. We went down to ultrasound to check her G/J tube. Great news is everything came back looking good. Bad news is we aren’t sure what is causing the pain. The belief is still that it is neurologic but it is important to rule out issues with the G/J tube.

After the ultrasound Olly got a bath which always helps to relax her. We followed the bath with another walk around the floor. We got a few laps in before Olly decided she was ready to be back in the room so that we could get her suctioned out. Saliva seems to be a bigger issue when we are on J-Tube feeds. Not sure why but something we will talk about with the docs again in the morning.

Olly gave us one more scare before bed time. She showed signs of discomfort when the nurse flushed her iv to get her fluids started again. With concerns of another infiltration the vascular team was paged to come determine if her iv was still good or if in fact she had infiltrated again. Again we got good news her iv was still good and we were able to restart fluids.

So at this point our plan for tomorrow is increase her feeds, work to figure out and manage the pain, see what other curveballs get thrown at us and get more rest. Dad will also be spending the day fighting with insurance about home skilled nursing care for Olly. We were denied for coverage today but I’m not done fighting. We are also talking to Anoka County and working through the slow process of getting help from the county.

That is all for today. Praying for a calm and smooth day Wednesday and that everyone both here at the hospital and at home can get some quality sleep.
