Third Time's a Charm?

Olly had her new G/J tube placed today, we are hoping the third time’s the charm. They did the procedure a little different this time. First they went with a shorter J-Tube. The first time was 22 cms and the second was 30 cms. This time we went with a 15 cm tube. The biggest difference though was that Olly was sedated and intubated for the procedure this time. She was sedated due to the difficulty they had placing the the last tube and was intubated much for the same reason. During the last placement she vomited a couple times and intubating was the easiest and best way to protect her airway and lungs.

In talking with the Dr. after the procedure was complete she was very happy with placement, the length of the tube and overall with how the procedure went. She said that the sedation and intubation was definitely the way to go. It turns out Olly is much more cooperative when she is asleep than awake, go figure.

Olly had one seizure shortly after we got back up to the room but it was overall minor and we are chalking it up to the stress of the procedure and the fact that she was due for meds at the same time her procedure was starting so she was about 2 hours late on her anti-seizure medication.

Olly’s plan for tonight is just hangout and see how the feeds go into her new J-Tube. The plan is to start at a super low rate overnight and start working on increasing it during the day tomorrow. We will have a nice family dinner of sloppy joes, chips and cookies at the hospital tonight as Lora and Nate swap out and Lora gets the super comfy hospital couch/bed and Nate goes home and to work tomorrow.

One last God story before I go for today. Olly’s nurse in anesthesiology was actually the triage nurse from the ED on our first trip in October. It was the perfect time to see a familiar face that has already been part of a God story once in our Tay-Sachs Journey. I never once felt tense or anxious from the time we left our room to the time we got back upstairs. God has been so good at putting the right people in our lives at the right time.

I know we close a lot of posts saying thank you to everyone who has helped along the way but seriously we would be lost without and will never be able to say thank you enough.
